Farewell from our Israeli Shlichim: Shlomit & Tal

Dear Jewish Community of Madison,

We can’t believe it’s been two years since we first came to Madison, and that now it is time to say goodbye and go back to Israel. It feels almost impossible to sum up two years in a couple of paragraphs, but we will try. Before we came to Madison, we did not know what to expect. The only knowledge we had of Wisconsin was based on the TV show “That 70’s Show”, and we could barely locate Wisconsin on the map. We were also told that Madison was very cold and that the people there were very warm. It could not have been more true.

We would like to thank you all for making our time in Madison unforgettable. We were proud and happy to be a part of such a warm, welcoming community, full of people who made us feel right at home. Our experience would not have been the same without the amazing people at the Federation, Hillel, and all the community members and students who we met and came to our different programs during our time here. It was a pleasure bringing Israel to Madison and a great privilege learning about Jewish life outside Israel. Our work as Shlichim (emissaries) is not over, and the Madison Jewish community will now have two new Shlichim in Israel. We are now preparing for our next adventure in life, where I (Tal) will be a 7th grade History teacher, and I (Shlomit) will be pursuing a master’s degree in Genetic Counseling.

We may be leaving soon, but we encourage you to keep in touch with us through email and Facebook, and please know that we would love to meet you in Israel whenever you come to visit there. We are hoping to be back to Madison in the future, but until then, it is always in our hearts.

Thank you all for the best times of our lives.

Love,
Shlomit and Tal

THANK YOU!
A big thank you to Shlomit and Tal from all of us at the Jewish Federation of Madison for bringing Israel to Madison. From coordinating Yom HaAtzmaut celebrations; teaching Hebrew to kids and adults; presenting lectures to seniors and congregations; leading programs for Gan preschoolers, Camp Shalom campers, and Midrasha teens; to accompanying UW college students on Birthright trips to Israel - you have touched so many areas of our community through your work with our Community Shlichim/Israel Program. We will miss you!
