This month, "Beaufort" (2007) takes us to a fortified mountaintop in Lebanon, where Israeli soldiers struggle to withstand daily shelling, man vital observation posts, live amid a labyrinth of tunnels, and greet the rare helicopters and trucks sent to resupply them. After they endure terrible losses and hardships, the government orders them to abandon the fort. They and we are forced to wonder about the meaning and value of their sacrifices. The film offers an intimate look at soldiers trying to cope with the terrible reality of war.
