Be part of the fight for reproductive rights! Want to help protect abortion access? TBE Sisterhood and the Social Action Committee invite you to join us for a postcard party at Temple Beth El. We will be sending postcards to Ohio residents, encouraging them to vote “yes” on their state’s November 7 ballot amendment. This amendment will establish a state constitutional right to "make and carry out one's own reproductive decisions," including decisions about abortion, contraception, fertility treatment, miscarriage care, and continuing pregnancy.

This postcard effort is supported by the Union forReform Judaism Religious Action Center, following a yearlong effort where Reform Jews across Ohio went door to door collecting signatures in support of the amendment. As we schmooze and catch up after the holidays, this tikkun olam activity will help protect people’s right to make very private decisions about their own bodies and families. It also supports our religious freedom as Jews, and how we as individuals and congregations can express our beliefs and practice our faith. We know access to abortion care is a precious and precarious right.

The issue is currently under litigation in Wisconsin, where the debate centers on the effect of a Wisconsin statute dating from 1848. Depending on the outcome of the litigation, we could soon find ourselves in the same position as Ohio. Let’s help our neighbor state reassert this freedom and allow its citizens to make reproductive decisions consistent with their own beliefs and health needs. We’re all in this together!
