As we continue our spiritual journey toward the High Holy Days, S'lichot services take us to the next level, as we experience a taste of the soul-stirring melodies and liturgies of the holy day season. The S'lichot service will be led by Matt Banks, and lasts about 30 minutes.

As part of this year's program, we will watch the 2018 Israeli independent film Shoelaces, which tells the story of a complicated relationship between an aging father and his special-needs son. Through its portrayal of a relationship full of love, rejection and co-dependency, Shoelaces questions the importance of human connection and if life is even possible without it.

Following the film, we'll schmooze over wine and cheese outdoors, weather permitting.

Our cherished congregant, Bob Skloot, Professor Emeritus of Theater and Holocaust Studies, will facilitate a discussion following the film, and then we will wrap up the evening with our spirited and musical S'lichot service.

You can view the film at BIC or on your own. The film lasts 98 minutes. Our lively discussion will begin around 10:45 pm (in person or on Zoom).

Here is the lineup for what should be a delightful evening together, in person at BIC or via Zoom:

  • 8:00 pm - Ma'ariv and Havdallah
  • 8:15 pm - Film begins (in person only)
  • 10:00 pm - Wine & cheese on the front patio at BIC, weather permitting
  • 10:45 pm - Film discussion begins (in person & on Zoom)
  • 11:30 pm - S'lichot services, led by Matt Banks (in person & on Zoom)

If you are joining us in person, please call the office for an entry code or bring your Shabbat fob. Contact the office for Zoom link.
